Healthcare Computing supports Movember
Movember is the annual event that takes place during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as depression in men, prostate cancer, and other male cancers.
Staff from the company are raising money and awareness for men’s health by growing a moustache and fundraising for the charity during Movember. Healthcare Computing celebrated a bake sale to raise money for the Movember Foundation, fundraising over £135
Movember, the month formerly known as November, is when brave and selfless men around the world grow a moustache, with the support of the women in their lives, to raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
It was established in 2003 by a few friends over a beer in a pub just outside Melbourne, Australia. The goal was simple – to create a campaign promoting the growth of the moustache among like-minded people and having fun along the way. It is about real men talking about real issues and changing the face of men’s health, one moustache at a time. Movember now spans the globe, with campaigns in 21 countries in 2012.
The Movember Foundation is a global charity raising funds and awareness for men’s health. These funds deliver breakthrough research and support services to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives. Since 2003, they’ve raised over £400 million and helped fund over 1,000 breakthrough men’s health programmes across 21 countries. The funds raised in the UK, support the number one and two male specific cancers, ie prostate and testicular cancer. In 2010, over 112,000 UK people supported the campaign and raised £11.7m.
