“Novell® Appliance” – A Remote Management solution for GP Practices
An entire solution
At the heart of this solution is the "Novell Appliance", which provides an enterprise grade systems management solution to sites at the end of lower bandwidth links. The "Novell Appliance" solution completes an infrastructure enabling Trusts to build a directory based system for managing users, computers, software and policies from a central location.
The "Novell Appliance" is combined with a small form factor Fujitsu Computers PRIMERGY servers deployed at each GP Practice, Community Hospital or PCT office.
The solution provides a two way connection between the remote location and the central management directory, which can be readily administered from a web browser.

Relieving the pain points
The whole network can be monitored, updated and remotely maintained from the Central Management Directory (CMD). A secure encrypted back up of all practice data to the CMD can be scheduled regularly, removing the need for expensive local tape backup devices and the associated risk of lost data. Applications and policies can be consistently updated across the network. If required, the Novell Appliance can also run a database or act as a web proxy server, further reducing demand on the local N3 connection. If you need to outsource the management or hosting, Healthcare Computing can provide that too.
