Healthcare Computing Ltd, a leading provider of IT infrastructure solutions to GPs and PCTs, is proud to sponsor the Wessex Local Medical Committees (LMCs) IT conference, which will take place on 22nd February 2011 at the Village Hotel in Bournemouth. The conference follows the success of the LMCs’ first event in July 2011 which was attended by 100 delegates from General Practices across Wessex. The focus is on the future of healthcare IT and features keynote speakers, including Dr Nigel Watson, Dr Peter Crouch and Mathew Trudgill of Healthcare Computing.

Healthcare Computing has worked with Wessex LMCs since it successfully completed a total infrastructure upgrade in December 2010, which enhanced business processes and improved communications to the LMCs’ many members. Wessex LMCs support thousands of GPs across 450 practices in Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and the Channel Islands.

Nigel Watson, Chief Executive, Wessex LMCs says: ”We are delighted to have Healthcare Computing’s support again, as our first IT conference was such a resounding success. We hope to repeat the success of the first event, while continuing to share ideas and information about the future of healthcare technology and how our members can benefit from it.”

Neil Payne, Managing Director of Healthcare Computing says: “We are very pleased to be able to demonstrate our support to Wessex LMCs by sponsoring this conference.”

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust IT Collaborative (ITC) which provides IT services to NHS Coventry has reported significant time and cost savings since rolling out an asset management, remote maintenance and deployment solution from Healthcare Computing, across its estate. The ITC, which supports primary care computing in Coventry, required a more streamlined approach to its services to ensure full compliance with NHS Connecting for Health standards. The ITC chose Healthcare Computing to help implement and project manage the implementation of this solution for NHS Coventry’s 68 GP Practices. Healthcare Computing is a leading provider of IT support and IT infrastructure solutions to GP practices and Trusts across the UK.

The ITC started to roll out the network management, remote maintenance and deployment solution in December 2010, and successfully completed the installation in March 2011. The ITC’s Benefits Realisation report which has just been published demonstrates that since the deployment, there has been improved support to GP surgeries, improved resolution of calls and reduced travel to sites. In addition, deployment of software packages can now take place over the network, saving time and resources. Since the deployment of the solutions, the number of site visit call outs has reduced by almost 50% resulting in time savings travelling to and from sites. In addition, savings have been calculated for remote software installations, ie the installation of Microsoft Office to the whole of Coventry’s GPs meaning a saving of 25 days’ engineering; and the installation of Desktop Shortcuts and applications for Evolve, again saved 25 days of engineering. Overall this is allowing the ITC to focus more of their engineering resources in delivering better quality support to the practices.

“We love the web based dashboard which lets us see at-a-glance status of every appliance within the PCT, and the quicker call resolution which we set out to achieve.” says Yusuf Bhayat, ITC’s Networking Service Manager.

Neil Payne, Managing Director of Healthcare Computing says ”Healthcare Computing is committed to providing solutions to customers that not only improve their IT infrastructure and support but also provide clear cost saving benefits in the long term. We are delighted to see that ITC are able to measure the results and have seen a quick return on investment from an HC solution.”

Healthcare Computing today announced a new contract with Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SaSH) to provide an IT Service Desk service, 1st line support and a hosted incident management system.

SaSH required enhanced support services to assist users at its own East Surrey Hospital location as well as SaSH staff based on other Trust sites such as Crawley, Caterham Dene and Horsham hospitals. Since Healthcare Computing won the tender and the contract went live on 12th October 2011, feedback has been extremely positive. SaSH provides services to a population of 420,000 residents of east Surrey and north-east West Sussex. Healthcare Computing is a leading provider of IT support solutions to GPs and PCTs, has an unrivalled knowledge of the primary care IT infrastructure and is supported by a highly qualified team of experts and excellent customer service.

Outsourcing the service to Healthcare Computing has enabled the trust to implement a contract to deliver a more manageable service at reduced costs. With a total number of supported users of around 3,300 and around 2,100 end devices, the service delivered needed to be reliable and well performance managed. The contract is managed by strong supplier management and a Service level agreement which is underpinned by financial penalties for failed SLAs. This provides peace of mind for SaSH and their supported users that a high quality service is always delivered.

Peter Hodgetts, IT Manager at SaSH says: “Through this tender we have secured a significant saving in delivery costs and now have a contract in place with strict SLAs and penalties for failure. The service desk is working well, and whilst the incident management portal is being tuned to our needs, it has already given us some really useful live reports and dashboards which we have not had before.”

Neil Payne, Managing Director of Healthcare Computing “This new contract represents an exciting new area for Healthcare Computing within acute care, and we are delighted that we can provide an improved solution at less cost to SaSH and the NHS.”

Healthcare Computing Ltd, a leading provider of IT support solutions to GPs and PCTs in the UK, today announced it has gained NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) Accreditation for its ITIL-based Service Desk. The company is one of the first non-NHS organisations to achieve this accreditation, which will see Healthcare Computing providing even better support, with local NHS CFH users being directed to their Service Desk, rather than a national service desk, for IT queries. The process included a thorough assessment, which Healthcare Computing excelled in.

NHS CFH’s Service Desk Accreditation process is rigorous and is based around the ITIL best practice framework, with organisations having to complete 40 National Accreditation Criteria before even being considered for accreditation. The team at Healthcare Computing were able to demonstrate these criteria had been met, and the NHS CFH Accreditation Team were impressed with the processes the Service Desk already had in place. Healthcare Computing showed evidence of working to best practice, with an excellent understanding of the NHS, as well as a detailed understanding of local, NPfIT and LSP applications.

Richard Hiett, Service Manager of Healthcare Computing, says “We are delighted to be one of the first private companies to gain NHS CFH Service Desk Accreditation, which is a reflection of our serious commitment to our customers and their requirements.”

Healthcare Computing customers will benefit directly from the accreditation. The Service Desk can now communicate directly with NHS CFH’s Service Bridge, meaning any critical incidents affecting central services and patient care can be escalated immediately. There are also now direct routes of escalation to service providers such as BT and ATOS which will enable a more efficient handling of incidents requiring the involvement of central service providers.

Healthcare Computing Ltd today announced the successful completion of its One GP Domain Project with NHS Southampton City’s IT department. The new infrastructure delivers more centralised IT management across the PCT, while reducing the costs involved in deploying software and day to day administration. With over 1,200 users, 80 servers and 37 GP practices, NHS Southampton City’s IT department wanted to move from a reactive model of support, to a more proactive one, where issues could be identified before causing downtime.

The completed project enables IT to be managed more centrally, and has created a single Active Directory domain covering all sites. Advanced monitoring of every server, network switch and backup job has been implemented, and Healthcare Computing has created a central console for the PCT which can be used for deploying software and to carry out backups. The team set up organisation units for each practice, and sub-groups for users based on job function, meaning that all staff can be viewed from one central place and tasks such as re-setting passwords which used to be onerous processes, can now be completed immediately.

Damien McCann, who heads up Primary Care IT Development at NHS Southampton City, says: “The project has been really successful and the end result is excellent. One of the main benefits is that we can now roll out software really simply. A few mouse clicks can roll out an entire solution, which reduces costs across the board, as there is no need to disrupt services by going into the surgery. We can manage everything from one central location, and we also now have a really good foundation that will mean any future changes will be less complex and cheaper to implement. We believe the One GP Domain Project along with the associated work puts Southampton amongst the most technically advanced GP IT estates in the UK.”

Not only have the benefits been felt at PCT level, but GPs are delighted too. Dr Hoghton of St Mary’s surgery says: “We are already feeling the benefits: the recent roll out of the Map of Medicine took place with no interruption at all. The solution just suddenly appeared on my desktop. We are delighted.”
